The Ansible

That’s what we’re making. (see LeGuin, Ursula)

Welcome to Rocannon, the blog of Daniel O’Keefe. Please feel free to poke around, to communicate with me or with others, or simply to marvel at the mascot (It is NOT a caduceus!).

This used to be a disinterested area. Now it seems as if it is mixed up with money-making. Well and good. I will have to be pseudonymous somewhere else. Not telling.

I am a teacher, instructional designer, site developer, critic, linux snob, and have been an actor. I play some instruments, none of them very well, and my current goal is the uillean pipes and the accordion. I’m married to Megan, who is My Buddy. I play basketball less and less because I need to win, and more and more because I am both getting slower and loving the dance of the game more and more. I also play soccer. I live in New York.

I desire the end of schooling as it currently stands, jingoist and fascist tendencies in societies, and the control of our minds and bodies by advertisers and corporate lobbies. I think education is not schools, but that schools sometimes do great things. I think the way we use computers, the way we store and organize our data, and the reality we ascribe to virtual organizations is very important.

The name of this blog is that of a central character in Ursula K. Leguin‘s Hainish novels. He spoke into an ansible.

This blog’s parent site, (Perelandran) is named for the second book in C.S. Lewisspace trilogy, and was surely constructed from various Anglo-Saxon medieval nouns, if I know the man.

Current reading: J. Swift, H.G. Wells
